Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Chandler, Pulisic, Bradley and more

While MLS Cup takes centerstage in the U.S., plenty of Americans Abroad should see the field over the weekend with their respective club teams.

A limited Friday is headlined by an in-form Timmy Chandler, who joins Eintracht Frankfurt for a clash with Hoffenheim in Bundesliga play. German action rolls into Sunday as Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund face off with Cologne while Bobby Wood’s Hamburg hosts Augsburg.

In England, Bob Bradley looks to help further Swansea City’s chances of staying up in a clash with a fellow relegation contender in Sunderland. Americans collide in the English championship, as a clash between DeAndre Yedlin’s Newcastle and Jonathan Spector’s Birmingham City headlines second division action.

Elsewhere, Perry Kitchen and Hearts face Scottish powerhouse Rangers, Ventura Alvarado and Club America begin the Club World Cup and Andrew Wooten looks to continue his goalscoring form in 2. Bundesliga action.

Here’s a closer look at this weekend’s Americans Abroad:

Timmy Chandler and Eintracht Frankfurt face Hoffenheim.

Desevio Payne and FC Groningen take on Roda JC Kerkrade.

Jerome Kiesewetter and Fortuna Dusseldorf host Nurnberg.

Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund face off with Cologne.

Bobby Wood and Hamburg host Augsburg.

John Brooks and Hertha Berlin face Aron Johannsson and Werder Bremen,

Alfredo Morales and Ingolstadt collide with Terrence Boyd and RB Leipzig.

Julian Green and Bayern Munich face Wolfsburg. (Green is out due to injury)

Bob Bradley and Swansea face Lynden Gooch and Sunderland. (Gooch is out due to injury)

Geoff Cameron and Stoke City visit Gedion Zelalem and Arsenal. (Cameron is out due to injury)

Emerson Hyndman and Bournemouth face Burnley.

DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle take on Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City.

Danny Williams and Reading face Sheffield Wednesday.

Tim Ream and Fulham visit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Perry Kitchen, Bjorn Johnsen and Hearts visit Rangers.

Caleb Stanko and FC Vaduz take on Lausanne Sports.

Duane Holmes and Scunthorpe United visit Rochdale.

Gobly Ariyibi and Chesterfield visit Peterborough United.

Russel Canouse and VFL Bochum face 1860 Munich.

Ventura Alvarado and Club America face Jeonbuk.

Fabian Johnson and Borussia Monchengladbach host Mainz.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Tottenham face Manchester United.

Fafa Picault and St. Pauli visit Greuther Furth.

Andrew Wooten and Sandhausen host Wurzberg Kickers.

  1. Jack McBean and Coventry City travel to Southend United on Saturday. The Sky Blues currently sit one point in front of Gboly Ariyibi and Chesterfield in 21st place in League One. McBean has played in the last four Coventry matches across all competitions.

  2. So Club America plays Sunday and Wednesday for sure and if they win Sunday’s match they are assured of a match on the following Sunday. They then fly back from Japan to host Tigres in the Apertura Final first leg on that Thursday. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say they aren’t going to try very hard to win against Joebuk so they can come home four days sooner.
