Atlanta United made some significant additions to its roster on Sunday.

The club announced a number of key player transactions, including Columbus Crew defender Michael Parkhurst. Atlanta also traded goalkeeper Sean Johnson to New York City FC after acquiring him from the Chicago Fire.

Atlanta traded Johnson in exchange for general allocation money and targeted allocation money. The team also acquired midfielders Harrison Heath from Orlando City and Kevin Kratz from the Philadelphia Union, along with Montreal Impact forward Romario Williams.

With these latest acquisitions, Atlanta now has 14 players on its roster ahead of Tuesday’s expansion draft.

    • That is a possibility … a slim one, but possible. The question for me is this, “Why would Brad want to go to the dumpster-Fire that is Chicago?”

    • Guzan goes through the allocation list and Atlanta is number 1 on that list. They have first dibbs on him. And while he is from the Chicago area, after being on some really bad teams the last few season he might want to play for a team that is not showing a history of poor results like the Fire and would rather play in Atlanta for a team that at the least shows much greater ambitions.

  1. I don’t see why Atlanta would trade Johnson unless Guzan was signed and sealed.
Does this mean Lampson is the man in Chicago?

    • A team can get by with an average keeper if they have good defenders. But when you don’t have defenders…than you need an exceptional keeper.

Chicago had a good keeper, with an average defense.
NYCFC had an average keeper, with an average defense.

  2. Yeah. Was trying to think WHY on Earth you’d trade a high-end keeper like Johnson…until it occurred to me Guzan was indeed looking to come back.

Probably not a bad notion. If you’re going to start somewhere, be hard to score on.
