Dortmund: Pursuing Pulisic ‘not worth the effort for Liverpool’

18-year old U.S. Men’s National Team winger Christian Pulisic has enjoyed a breakout campaign so far at Borussia Dortmund, drawing the eyes of many envious teams.

One of those in pursuit of the young talent is his former manager Jurgen Klopp, now at Liverpool. After reportedly having a bid of €13 million rejected over the summer, Liverpool may be amping up their efforts to bring Pulisic to Anfield. However, Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc has stated that the pursuit “is not worth the effort for Liverpool”, according to Kicker.

Dortmund is expected to demand at least €25 million for Pulisic, who is under contract through 2019. After being concerned about playing time under new manager Thomas Tuchel, Pulisic has seen the field consistently as he’s worked himself into a prominent first team role.

Liverpool certainly have the funds to pull off a €25 million transfer, but with their wealth of attacking talent, a move for Pulisic may not make financial sense when the funds could be used to shore up weaker parts of the team.

  1. Not a bad thing for two widely respected club managers to both want him this badly. Hope he stays with Dortmund thru 2018 WC after which this number will get much higher if he performs well. Unfortunately, we might not have the talent around him on the USMNT to really showcase how good he is.

  2. i don’t really see an upside for this. Liverpool is a lateral move at best, if not a step down, from Dortmund and not really one that provides more pt. if Dortmund needs the funds then there is that but I don’t see why they would sell one of their elite prospects that is already a contributor.

“is not worth the effort” just about sums it up.

    • I would have thought his saying price was around 17-20mil, so what Dortmund is asking for shocked me too. However, when you consider his age, first team minutes and impact and more importantly that he is now a full international, then you start to realize it kind of makes sense. I don’t see him going anywhere for a few more years but when that time comes, and if he is still progressing you’d have to think it’s going to be a big number that gets him away from BvB

      • Yeah, a couple more years… I am knocking on so much wood I’ll be able to light my fireplace for a decade… and no injuries… and it will be a massive price tag.

    • Nowhere does it say Dortmund is asking for €25 million. It says:

“expected to demand at least €25 million”

There is no attribution at all. The article just makes it up. Or, they took that figure from the Daily Mail transfer rumors which just makes things up as well. And that rumor has been out since after Coutinho went down. Of course Liverpool had a 17yr old score in their recent EFL game, so they have some scoring talent in the pipeline.

    • I do not see Pulisic getting any more playing time at Anfield than what he gets at Dortmond. At his stage of Development, I’m sure he realizes that staying at BVB is probably to his best interest.
