Nearly two years since he was controversially relieved of his duties by the New York Red Bulls, Mike Petke has found another coaching gig.
Petke confirmed to SiriusXM FC that he has been named head coach of Real Monarchs, Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate. Previous head coach Freddy Juarez was recently appointed to the club’s first team staff.
Timing for me is everything but a side from that @RealMonarchs checked off all of my boxes, and it felt like the right fit. – @petkemike

The former Red Bulls defender and coach has not held a coaching role since he was let go by New York. He reportedly interviewed for the Chicago Fire job last year before the team hired Veljko Paunovic.
Petke won the Supporters’ Shield in 2013 with the Red Bulls in his first year as a head coach. He then led the team to the Eastern Conference final in 2014 before they were knocked out by the New England Revolution.
THAT IS WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT. now, we’re building the COACHING pyramid. hire coaches into usl. then, promote the best ones to mls.
Hopefully he’s in line to take over for RSL. Cassar has done too little so far. RSL ownership keeps signaling to fans that cassars level of success is good enough when they keep him around.
