The Philadelphia Union ended a month of dormancy in the offseason by making their first transaction on Thursday.

The Union re-signed forward Charlie Davies to a one-year deal. Davies was acquired by the club at the trade deadline last season from the New England Revolution. The 30-year-old forward only played 81 minutes across eight matches for the Union.

“We are thrilled to have Charlie back for the 2017 season,” sporting director Earnie Stewart said. “It will be great to have Charlie from the start with a full preseason around our club and we’re looking forward to what he can bring to our team for an entire season.”

Davies is one of two true forwards on the Union roster at the moment along with C.J. Sapong. Fabian Herbers, who played most of his minutes on the wing in 2016, is also a forward option for the Union.

According to a report from Univision’s Houston affiliate, the Dynamo are on the verge of signing Colombian midfielder Juan David Cabezas from Deportivo Cali in Colombia. The 25-year-old is a defensive midfielder by trade, but he can also shift out to the wings if need be.

Houston has already brought in Alberth Elis, Adolfo Machado and Romell Quioto during Wilmer Cabrera’s first offseason in charge. All of the new acquisitions have come from Central or South America.
