
The Major League Soccer offseason picked up at a furious pace on Monday morning as clubs across the league announced player options and those who had their options declined were added to the free agency and Re-Entry draft lists.
Joevin Jones, Roman Torres and Brad Evans were among the players retained by newly-crowned MLS Cup champion Seattle. Andreas Ivanschitz, Tyrone Mears, Nelson Valdez were among the players who didn’t have their options picked up. (REPORT)
Among the biggest names out of contract at the moment played for the LA Galaxy in 2016. League veterans Jeff Larentowicz, Alan Gordan and Mike Magee are all open to pursue options in free agency. (REPORT)
The Colorado Rapids announced on Monday that five players were signed to long-term deals, including backup goalkeeper Zac MacMath, who filled in for the injured Tim Howard in the Western Conference Final. Jared Watts, Micheal Azira, Sam Cronin and Marlon Hairston also inked long-term contracts with the second-place side in the Western Conference. (REPORT)
MLS Cup runner-up Toronto FC exercised the options of 13 players, including center back Drew Moor and midfielder Jonathan Osorio. The TFC players out of contract include Will Johnson, who is eligible for free agency. Daniel Lovitz, Ashtone Morgan and Josh Williams are eligible for the Re-Entry draft. (REPORT)
Costa Rican forward Alvaro Saborio will be released into the Re-Entry draft pool after his option was declined by D.C. United. Chris Korb and Andrew Dykstra will join him after having their contract options for 2017 declined. (REPORT)
D.C. was also busy on the trade front on Monday, as the Black and Red sent Miguel Aguilar to the Galaxy for a fourth-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. United also sent forward Kennedy Igboananike to the Portland Timbers. Once the Nigerian’s rights were acquired by Portland, the club declined his 2017 contract option. (REPORT)
Portland did however exercise the options on the contracts of Zarek Valentin and Ben Zemanski. Defender Nat Borchers will enter the free agency pool since he is out of contract. (REPORT)
The New York Red Bulls inked goalkeeper Ryan Meara to a multi-year deal that was made official on Monday. (REPORT)
Real Salt Lake announced on Monday that 19-year-old forward Sebastian Saucedo will return to the club in 2017 after spending last season on loan at Veracruz in Liga MX. (REPORT)
In retirement news, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paolo Nagamura declared he’s hanging up his boots at the age of 33. Nagamura will take up a role on the coaching staff of the club’s USL affiliate, Swope Park Rangers.
