Report: Swansea City launches review as pressure on Bradley heats up

Bob Bradley is reportedly on the hot seat at Swansea City already.

According to the Telegraph, the club will conduct a review of the most recent results as it searches for a solution to climb out of the relegation zone in the Premier League. Bradley’s team selections have reportedly come under scrutiny, as the manager has frequently changed lineups through his first matches in charge.

Bradley has won just one of his seven games in charge since he took over from Francesco Guidolin in October. The 5-0 defeat to Tottenham has led to this review and the American could land in hot water if results do not improve.

Thankfully for Bradley, Swansea has a couple of games coming up against other relegation favorites. The Swans will host Sunderland this coming Saturday and battles West Ham on Boxing Day.

Swansea is currently at the bottom of the Premier League table with nine points. The Welsh side is three points adrift of safety.

  1. Bottom 10 over the last 5 matches
    10.Bournemouth 6pts
    11.Watford 6pts
    12.Southampton 4pts
    13.Middlesb. 8pts
    14.Palace 3pts
    15.Burnley 4pts
    16.Leiscester 2pts
    17.West Ham 2pts
    18.Sunderland 9pts
    19.Hull 4pts
    20.Swansea 4pts

So on one hand no one is really running away from the Swans, but on the other those are 5 games where they could have closed ground on safety and didn’t. With six of the next seven against this clubs, its a time to gain ground, but it could also end the season. The Swans have given up 3 goals a game over that five game stretch.

    • but it matters who they’ve played in the last 5 matches: only one of those games was against a bottom 10 team (palace) and they got 3 points from that game.

now i’m not saying they’re going to go undefeated in the next stretch of games, but you could easily cast that as a ray of hope for their chances of survival.

  2. Impatient much? I get that in the Premier League you want results NOW, but the man hasn’t even had a shot at a transfer window. He’s working with someone else’s setup. Give the man a chance to fix things.

    • There is too much money to be lost to wait too long. Its something like 60 million in TV alone and estimates go up over 100 million in total lost revenue from the EPL to the Championship. You receive some payments to ease the blow, but its not close to what you lose.

      • I’m not saying they should be content to get relegated, but expecting him to get immediate success out of someone else’s roster that clearly wasn’t working is ridiculous.

      • Then he shouldn’t have taken the job WeatherMan. EPL fans are not going to start getting patient about results all of a sudden. Same goes for Mourinho by the way, although the bigger the club the longer the trial period perhaps.

  3. yeah that roster is a mess. you would think they would give him an opportunity to freshen up the team with some january transfers but it will be important that he stay in arms reach of the bottom feeders before the transfer period.

  4. Swansea’s schedule sets up for Bradley to get some results:

    Sunderland (18th) on December 10
West Brom (7th) on December 14
    Middlesboro (13th) on December 17
West Ham (17th) on December 26
    Bournemouth (10th) on Dec 31)
    Crystal Palace (14th) January 3
    Hull (19th) on January 10

Those 7 games are probably the easiest stretch that Swansea will get all season. Bradley has had almost 2 months to get to know his players and it’s now time to perform. If the club gives him those 7 games to turn things around, and he doesn’t manage to do so, than it’s more than fair to show him the door.

    • oya. new manager with a bad roster falls to Manchester United and Tottenham – whatever. this next stretch is where Bob needs to get points and convince his employers that 1. he is worth keeping around 2. he should get some funds to invest in the roster this January.

getting points at most of those games in the next month is completely possible and should see them out of the relegation zone. GO BOB!

  5. So do people still think it wasn’t vital for Bob to get off to a good start? Now he sits at 1 win in 7 and probably won’t make it through the season.

    • There are a lot of moving parts when a new manager comes in, scheme/tactics are a big part of it but if you don’t have players, there isn’t much you can do. Patience should be afforded any new manager but we all know the impatient british fans can dictate those terms in an impatient market. Bob was always going to be behind the 8ball being an American above all else, hopefully he gets it right soon enough and can show people that an Americans manager can hack it at this level.

      • Some guy in another thread. Its also worth pointing our that his one win was sort of a fluke

Yea, that was a ridiculous statement.

      • he’s probably referring to me, and it’s worth pointing out that it was in the context of what swansea’s expectations should be–survival. as they’re still only a whopping 3 points from safety, i stand by my statement that they still have ample time to turn it around.

but considering swansea are getting antsy (assuming the telegraph’s report is credible) after the loss to spurs–and not, say, after their upcoming run of actually winnable matches–i’m not sure their expectations are where they should be.

  6. Bradley has serious issues with personnel. They have lost the motivation and belief to win. If he doesn’t get that back, Bradley will be fired and Swansea Relegated
He has no dangerous striker up top
He doesn’t have any top-class midfielder to control the midfield
His defense has holes all over the place
The whole team is out of sync
Swansea has 12 games from now to Feb 11 2017 to battle relegation, BB needs to make some serious moves and sign some “above average” players, that will bring some spark on the field, that are hungry, with something to prove and want to play

He was just handed a messed up situation from the start.

  7. Bradley needs to nail his lineup this Sunday and get a win. I know he’s still trying to figure out his players but he may not get until January to do it if he doesn’t get the fans on his side. That game against the Spurs, given that they were going to lose anyway, was pretty ugly.

    Good luck Bob!!
