After a wildly successful 2016 for the Colorado Rapids, head coach Pablo Mastroeni has been justly rewarded.
Mastroeni will sign a new three-year contract with the Rapids, according to ESPN. The manager struggled through his first two seasons with the team, but his third was a huge success. The team finished second in the Western Conference behind FC Dallas and ultimately made it as far as the conference finals before falling to the eventual champions, Seattle Sounders.
Mastroeni has been with the organization for many years, spending 12 seasons with the Rapids as a player, including captaining the team to an MLS Cup in 2010.
The team under Mastroeni conceded the fewest goals in the league this past year and was undefeated at home until the conference final.
