The Seattle Sounders bolstered their depth in midfield with a big trade on Thursday afternoon.

The Sounders announced that they acquired midfielder Harry Shipp from the Montreal Impact in exchange for allocation money.

Seattle lost Andreas Ivanschitz and Erik Friberg after the team declined their contract options. The addition of Shipp will help fill those voids. The 25-year-old started 20 matches for the Impact last season, recording two goals and three assists. However, Shipp lost his spot in Montreal’s starting XI towards the end of the season.

Shipp had 10 goals and 14 assists in 66 appearances with the Chicago Fire before he was traded to Montreal last year.
