Gatt joins Nurnberg for trial following expiration of Molde contract

Another young American in Europe is drawing the eyes of a larger club.

Winger Joshua Gatt joined FC Nurnberg for a trial stint, the team confirmed via twitter. The 25-year-old Michigan native is working out with the German team, currently 9th in the 2. Bundesliga, as he prepares to determine his club future.

Gatt has most recently played for Molde with fellow American Ethan Horvath, now on his way to Club Brugge, and would be free to join Nurnberg on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at the end of 2016.

“I am very glad that Josh was fresh and came back on the field for us in 2016,” said Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. “It is up to him and his agent (Mario Weger) to find out what he wants to do the next few years.”

The move would cap a hugely successful year that has seen Gatt battle back from some awful knee injuries, keeping him off the field for large periods of time. Gatt’s injury woes date back to 2013, and the speedy winger only recently returned to the field, making five appearances for Molde towards the tail end of 2016.

  1. I would hope that he could trial with a few 1st Division teams being that he is a FREE. He should have his agent talk to everybody in the Prem … EXCEPT SUNDERLAND.

    • Yeah…the problem is he lost a couple years due to injury. The good part is that he should be able to get a lot of playing time. I just looked and he is already 25.

  2. I am encouraged for Gatt. I managed to catch two choppy streams back in November and he was as fast as ever. Super fast. I was really surprised. I thought the knee injuries would have killed his speed. He will land on his feet. I have no doubt. FCN could be a wonderful opportunity.

  3. I wish nothing but the best for Gatt. Really inspiring fightback from injuries by him. I hope he finds a good club situation, stays healthy, and has a rewarding career.
