New York City FC, expected to make a splash this winter with a handful of roster spots and a DP slot to fill, have continued their offseason additions with an international signing.

The team officially announced the long-rumored signing of Panamanian attacking midfielder Miguel Camargo on a one year loan with an option to purchase. The 23-year old joins from Panamanian club Chorillo FC pending the approval of his visa.

“We’re really happy to have added Miguel to the squad ahead of the 2017 season.” said NYCFC manager Patrick Vieira. “We believe we’re bringing in a player with the ability to compete for a first-team spot and with the desire and hunger to succeed in a new league.”

Camargo has appeared for the Panama National Team 12 times in his young career, scoring his first international goal in last summer’s Copa America Centenario against Chile.

ATLANTA UNITED CONTINUE SIGNINGS, ACQUIRE ASAD

The busy preparation for their 2017 inaugural season continues for Atlanta United, as they acquired yet another young South American to help fill out their roster.

Argentinian midfielder Yamil Asad, son of former Argentine international Omar Asad, has joined Atlanta United on a season-long loan as a discovery signing, the team announced on Wednesday. Asad moves to Atlanta from Velez Sarsfield of the Argentina Primera Division, where he has made 55 career appearances and scored four goals, featuring for the club for his entire youth and senior career, debuting professionally in 2012.

“We’re thrilled to add another exciting young player to our club,” Atlanta United president Darren Eales said. “He’s an attack-minded player with a very high ceiling, and we’re confident in his ability to showcase his quality in MLS.”

The signing continues Atlanta’s trend of mining South American leagues for talent ahead of their debut season.

TORONTO FC SIGN THEIR OWN CAMARGO

In addition to NYCFC’s acquisition of Miguel Camargo, Toronto FC have acquired a Camargo of their own in the form of a homegrown player.

The team announced on Wednesday that Sergio Camargo has been signed as the 13th homegrown player in club history, and the first to sign for the first team from their Kia Toronto FC Academy. Camargo has spent the past few seasons with Costal Carolina University before transferring to Syracuse for his final season, totaling 23 goals and 18 assists over 75 career NCAA matches.

“We are very excited to sign Sergio, another Canadian Homegrown player”, said Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “During his time in our academy, NCAA and PDL, Sergio has progressed and grown his game on a number of levels. We look forward to welcoming Sergio back to Toronto FC and watch his continued development as a professional soccer player.”

Camargo also helped USL-PDL team Kitchener-Waterloo United FC capture the 2015 PDL North American Championship as he captained the team.

LA GALAXY TARGET LAZIO AND ARGENTINA MIDFIELDER BIGLIA

The LA Galaxy have two free DP slots to fill this winter, and they are actively seeking a big splash in the form of an Argentinian international.

The team are reportedly interested in Lazio and Argentina midfielder Lucas Biglia, who has yet to renew his contract with the Serie A club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The 30-year old currently earns a salary of around $3 million euros, making him the younger, more affordable type of player the Galaxy have publicly stated themselves to be pursuing.

They do have competition, however, in the form of Chinese Super League team Hebei Fortune, who have reportedly offered a three-year deal with a salary of $10 million euros in an effort to entice the Argentinian to choose China.

TIMBERS RELEASE NEW PRIMARY JERSEYS

The Portland Timbers have wasted no time in establishing their 2017-18 look, announcing their new primary jerseys before any other team this offseason.

The jerseys, a sharp, streamlined green and gold look, reminiscent of the team’s 1970’s NASL look, features a slightly altered crest and a silver star to represent the team’s 2015 MLS Cup.

The jersey is available for pre-order beginning January 11th at 10:30 a.m. PT.

    • He’s got some good dance moves. Seriously, both expansion teams seem to be putting together good rosters, but it is so hard to win your first year when putting together a whole new group of players. They will likely be competitive, but a year or two away from playoff contention.

      • +1 totally agree.
As far as Minnesota United there are some things I can’t wait to see.

Miguel Ibarra + Christian Ramirez partnership, and if they were on klinsmanns radar, how good are they (together)? Can they combine well against MLS defenders?

Johan Venegas – after scoring against the USMNT is he a one-hit-wonder or was he just being suppressed (benched) by Montreal and is a good player

Mohammed Saeid – alternating in Midfield will with Tony Tchani and Will Trapp, don’t know why he didn’t fit the Crews style of play and get a permanent role in the starting line up, as he has excellent skills, vision and good one-touch passes.

      • @bizzy Believe me, Crew did not want to get rid of Saied, but you can’t protect everyone. He did a great job filling in for both Tchani and Trapp throughout the year as both of them missed time due to injury and international duty. He was on equal footing with them but the T&T partnership is hard to break up when they are both healthy.

You guys got a good one – treat him well!
