Jesse Marsch has been linked with a new job, but his current employer is insisting that he will remain for the 2017 season.
The New York Red Bulls released a statement on Thursday confirming that Marsch will remain with the club ahead of the 2017 season. Marsch, who has been in Europe meeting with Red Bull executives during the days leading up to the MLS Draft, was previously linked with the manager’s job at Red Bull Salzburg in move that would have reportedly seen Chris Armas named as his replacement.

Marsch took charge of the Red Bulls ahead of the 2014 season, winning the Supporters’ Shield in his first campaign in charge of the club. The former Chivas USA midfielder helped lead the club to another first place finish in the Eastern Conference last season before falling short against the Montreal Impact in the MLS playoffs.
The Red Bulls return to action on Feb. 22 for a CONCACAF Champions League clash with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Interesting, I wonder if Marsch used this as an opportunity for more cash.
Also, some history. Marsch played at Princeton for Bob Bradley. Both went to DC United for the first year of the MLS, Bob as an assistant coach to Arena and Marsch as a player. Both were part of the teams that won the first 3 MLS Cups when they moved to Chicago and Marsch became the first player to win 3 MLS Cups (though admittedly he played a very small role at DC). Later Bradley signed him as a player at Chivas. When Bob was the USMNT Coach, Marsch assisted him and later became the head coach at Montreal in its first MLS season. Then Marsch took some time off to travel and was an unpaid assistant at Princeton before taking the RedBull NY job.
Just musing about the connections between Arena, Bradley and Marsch.
If I was Marsch,…I would not have been interested in an 85 day contract either 😉
RB Salzburg is not Swansea, on two different levels: They’re title contenders, not bottom feeders, and the Austrian Bundesliga is not exactly the EPL.
