Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj is set to be joined by another fellow American.

Chesterfield winger Gboly Ariyibi is set to join Lichaj in the English League Championship, making the move up from League One as he seals a move to join his countryman at Forest on deadline day according to Sky Sports. Ariyibi joins a team currently sitting 19th in the Championship, far from hopes of promotion and just five points clear of the relegation line, a position not unfamiliar to the American winger, as Chesterfield sits similarly situated in League One.

Aryibi has a great deal of experience in England’s pyramid, originally coming up through the Southampton youth ranks alongside regulars such as Luke Shaw before joining Leeds United for his first professional deal in 2013. After just five months and four appearances, with two coming on loan with Tranmere Rovers, Ariyibi departed and signed with Chesterfield in August 2014, reportedly declining a deal from Premier League side Burnley in the process.

With Chesterfield, Ariyibi has appeared in 75 matches, scoring three goals in his time with the team. During this time, Ariyibi also featured for the U.S. U-20 and U-23 Men’s National Teams, though he also remains eligible for Nigeria and England as well.
