In England, Tottenham Hotspur booked their place into the F.A. Cup quarterfinals after a 3-0 drubbing of hosts Fulham at Craven Cottage. Harry Kane put the visitors up 1-0 after 16 minutes, finishing off Christian Eriksen’s assist. Six minutes into the second half, it was the same duo who added to Tottenham’s lead as Kane tapped home Eriksen’s helper.

Kane netted his hat-trick goal in the 73rd minute as he slotted home Dele Alli’s assist for a 3-0 final. Fulham managed three shots-on-goal but were unable to break down a strict Tottenham back-line. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now host third-tier Millwall in the quarterfinal round.

Roma kept the pressure on Italian leaders Juventus after a convincing 4-1 home win vs. Torino on Sunday in Serie A action. Luciano Spalletti’s side were up after 10 minutes as Edin Dzeko stroked home his 19th league goal of the season. Mohamed Salah doubled the hosts advantage seven minutes later, as he finished nicely with a left-footed effort.

Defender Leandro Peredes made it 3-0 with a long-range effort in the 65th minute before Torino’s Maxi Lopez pulled a consolation goal back six minutes from time. Radja Nainggolan slotted home Roma’s fourth in stoppage time for a 4-1 final score. The win puts the Romans seven points behind Juve for the league lead, but gave them five wins in a row in all competitions.

 

Elsewhere in Europe, Manchester United also advanced to the quarterfinals after a 2-1 road win at Blackburn. RB Leipzig earned a crucial road win at Borussia Monchengladbach in Bundesliga play, while Villarreal defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 in La Liga action.

ENGLISH F.A. CUP 

Manchester United fought back at Ewood Park for a 2-1 F.A. Cup fifth round victory. Rovers forward Danny Graham put the hosts ahead of 17 minutes, rifling home Marvin Emnes’ assist. United’s Marcus Rashford slotted home his third goal of the competition ten minutes later to pull Jose Mourinho’s side level.

The introduction of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba in the second-half would make all the difference for the Red Devils. Ibrahimovic slotted home Pogba’s assist in the 75th minute which would stand as the game-winner. It was also the Swede’s 23rd goal in all competitions.

Blackburn created six efforts on-goal, but United keeper Sergio Romero stood strong making five saves in the win. The current cup holders will now travel to Premier League leaders Chelsea in the quarterfinals.

SPANISH LA LIGA

At the Camp Nou, Barcelona bounced back from Tuesday’s Champions League disaster for a 2-1 win over Leganes. Leo Messi tapped home his 17th league goal of the season four minutes in for a 1-0 lead. Unai Lopez equalized for Leganes in the 71st minute after finishing off Darwin Machis’ assist. Messi netted his second goal of the match and the game-winner in stoppage time after slotting home a late penalty. Neymar drew the spot-kick after he was fouled by Leganes defender Martin Mantovani. Marc-Andre ter Stegen made five saves in the win, while Iago Herrerin made four in the defeat. Luis Enrique’s side jump back to second place, sitting a point behind leaders Real Madrid.

In Sunday’s early fixture featuring two teams fighting for European places, visiting Villarreal earned a late winner against Real Sociedad for a 1-0 win. In a game which saw a combined three chances on goal, Villarreal got a 94th minute winner off the foot of substitute forward Samuel Castillejo.

The 22-year-old’s right-footed shot following a cross found the bottom left corner which gave the visitors a crucial three points away from home. Real Sociedad failed to record a single shot on target, while Villarreal had two previous efforts saved by Geronimo Rulli. The win for the visitors sees them now sit two points behind their opponents.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA 

Sunday saw two matches on the Bundesliga slate which had implications on different ends of the league table. At Borussia-Park, second place RB Leipzig moved to five points behind leaders Bayern Munich after a 2-1 road win vs. Borussia Monchengladbach. Midfielder Emil Forsberg rifled home the opening goal, 31 minutes in to give Leipzig a 1-0 lead. Gladbach’s Thorgan Hazard failed to convert a penalty just before halftime as Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi made a great save to keep it 1-0. Timo Werner’s 12th league strike of the season put the visitors up 2-0, ten minutes into the second half. Jannik Vestergaard headed home for Gladbach nine minutes from time, to make it 2-1 but that’s the closest it got.

Koln and Schalke shared the points in a 1-1 mid-table clash at RheinEnergieStadion in Sunday’s late match. Anthony Modeste’s long-range effort two minutes to halftime leveled it for the hosts at 1-1. It was the strikers 17th league goal of the season. The strike by Modeste also canceled out Alessandro Schopf’s second minute tap-in for Schalke which had previously given the visitors the lead. Both sides had four shots-on-goal, but neither could muster up a winner. Koln remain in seventh, while Schalke sit three places and seven points back.

ITALIAN SERIE A

Trying to keep pace with the top two sides, Napoli put three past Chievo in a 3-1 road win. Lorenzo Insigne’s 31st minute effort made it 1-0 before Marek Hamsik doubled the visitors advantage seven minutes later from Allan’s assist. Piotr Zielinski added an insurance strike in the 58th to make it 3-0 before Chievo got a consolation goal from Riccardo Maggiorini 14 minutes later. Maurizio Sarri’s side hung on for their 16th league win of the season, which keeps them two points behind Roma. Chievo remain in 11th, after suffering their first league defeat out of their last four matches.

In Sunday’s late match, Milan earned an important 2-1 home win over visiting Fiorentina thanks to a 31st minute winner by Everton loanee Gerard Deulofeu. Juraj Kucka headed Milan in front after 16 minutes for his third league goal of the season. Nikola Kalinic finished off Federico Chiesa’s cross four minutes later to pull the visitors level. It was the strikers 11th goal of the Serie A campaign. Deulofeu’s effort was a beautiful long-range effort that found the bottom right corner. It was his first goal for the club after being loaned in January. Six saves from Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also helped the hosts cause to get closer to a European spot. They now sit four points off of their opponents, and four points off Atalanta for the final Europa League qualification spot.

Elsewhere, Sassuolo got a second-half brace from Gregoire Defrel to defeat Udinese, 2-1, away from home. The hosts went up seven minutes in after Seko Fofana rifled home a long-range effort. Defrel equalized for the visitors in the 70th minute as he scored from a left-footed effort. Seven minutes later, Defrel completed the comeback as he fizzed home a long-range effort of his own to give Sassuolo their second win out of their last three matches. They leapfrog Udinese into 12th place, sitting a point ahead.

In France, Lyon remained in fourth place in Ligue 1 after a 4-2 home win over visiting Dijon on Sunday. Corentin Tolisso put the hosts up 1-0 after 11 minutes, finishing with his right foot. Julio Tavares’ 30th minute header drew Dijon level, before Lois Diony’s long-range effort three minutes into the second half put the visiting side ahead 2-1. Tolisso made it 2-2 in the 80th minute rifling home a long-range effort of his own, before Alexandre Lacazette slotted home a penalty four minutes later to put the hosts ahead. Nabil Fekir capped a great comeback in stoppage time, curling home into the bottom left corner. A 4-2 win sees the winners stay in fourth place, but sit four points head of St. Etienne. Dijon fall to 17th after the tough defeat.

Elsewhere, Bordeaux shutout Guingamp, 3-0, in a mid-table clash at the Nouveau Stade Bordeaux to bounce back after last weekend’s loss. Francois Kamano’s sixth goal of the season put the hosts ahead after 10 minutes. Nicolas Pallois’ 43rd minute header made it 2-0 right before the halftime break. Guingamp’s day got worse right near the hour mark as Jonathan Pereira was sent off after earning a second yellow card. Gaetan Laborde finished off Kamano’s assist in the 71st to make it 3-0 to the hosts which stood to be the final. Bordeaux remain in seventh, while Guingamp fall to ninth.
