U.S. U-20s vs. Mexico: Your Running Commentary

The United States’ rivalry with Mexico resumes on Monday, and a World Cup berth is on the line.

After advaincing from the group stage, the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team takes on El Tri on Monday in the first match of th second round of World Cup qualifying. Mexico enters with a perfect record of three clean sheets, while the U.S. came into goalscoring form in the final two games of the group round.

  1. All they need now is a draw against El Salvador and they will finish no worse than 2nd and go to the WC. I take back all the verbal brickbats I directed toward Ramos. And despite some of the complaining here, the only thing that matters in a tournament is the score. There are no style points in soccer.

  2. Great intensity from the team this evening! Super impressed by Luca De La Torre. They are combining better as the tourney progresses and if they can learn to finish some chances they’ll get to the WC. That’s all that matters. Where are all the Ramos haters now!!

  3. Glad they won but they looked very sloppy at times with their first touch. Could have shot themselves in the foot very easily, luckily they didn’t need those two breakaways they should have scored…

  4. Our boys are being super aggressive. Pressing Mexico like crazy and have them flustered. Pretty good half. Only minor quibbles would be Williamson’s struggling with his passing and Klinsmann’s distribution out of bounds repeatedly…but they’re minor quibbles. We’re definitely not allowing Mexico to do anything…or really have the ball.
