Americans Abroad Monday Preview: Green, Zelalem

Two young American take the field Monday as they look to aid their respective teams’ promotion pushes.

In Germany, Julian Green and Stuttgart face off with fourth-place Eintracht Braunschweig in a clash of promotion hopefuls. Stuttgart enters Monday with a three-point lead and a game in hand on second place Union Berlin, and a win against a fellow 2. Bundesliga contender would do wonders for a team looking to push to the top flight.

Green has appeared in five matches since making the move from Bayern Munich this January, and Stuttgart has secured all three points in each of his five appearances. To date, Green has contributed one goal, which came on Feb. 6 against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

While Green faces a battle in Germany, Gedion Zelalem and VVV Venlo will take the field in the Netherlands. The club is currently first on the Eerste Divise table with a five-point gap and a game in hand, making them favorites for promotion to the top flight. Zelalem has made three appearances for the club since moving on loan in January while also making the bench six additional times.
