Morris misses another USMNT training session ahead of Honduras clash

Just two days stand between the U.S. Men’s National Team and a vital World Cup qualifier against Honduras, but Jordan Morris’ status remains up in the air.

The USMNT forward missed training on Wednesday afternoon as he worked out alone in the last full session before Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Honduras. Morris also missed out on Tuesday’s session and is currently being viewed as “day-to-day” due to an ankle injury.

Morris’ injury came in the Seattle Sounders’ win over the New York Red Bulls over the weekend but it was not deemed serious enough to keep him out of USMNT camp.

However, Morris’ ankle issue is a concern to a now-weakened USMNT forward pool. Following an injury to Bobby Wood, the U.S. has just Morris, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondolowski as forward options on the current roster.

  1. I foresee us having a very difficult time scoring unless Pulisic has a coming out party. I just don’t see Altidore coming through and Dempsey has the heart but not the body at this stage of his career.

    • Yes Altidore only has 16 qualifier goals and has scored 24 over the last four years but when the guy that has scored 2 goes down the sky is falling. Get out of the echo chamber that keeps trying to convince people Jozy isn’t good, he’s averaged a goal every other game the last 5 years for the Nate, the only US player to have a better five year run EVER? Clint Dempsey from 2012-16 28 goals in 48 matches.

People keep trying to write these two off, but Clint was our best offensive player in Copa America and Jozy led Toronto all the way to the MLS final he was in much better form than Geovinco down the stretch last season, and both have 2 MLS goals in 3 matches so far this season.

    • I know Jozy has scored a lot of goals for USMNT but I can’t think of a single one that has come in a big moment. Confederations Cup 09? Dempsey is a big game player but hes coming off very long layoff and has looked a step slow to me since he has returned. I’m glad these two are here. If they weren’t we would be relying on some truly shaky options, but I just can’t bring myself to beat my chest with confidence. Hopefully we squeak out some points.

    • Plus maybe the hottest young prospect in US soccer history. The cupboard is hardly bare. And, all we need to do is score one more than the opposition.

Summoned your inner Yogi Berra on that one.
