Christian Pulisic didn’t start Saturday’s match for Borussia Dortmund, but he sure did finish it.
After entering as a 44th minute substitute for Marco Reus, the U.S. Men’s National Team winger scored a second half goal, pushing the Borussia Dortmund lead to 4-2 in Saturday’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen. Dortmund ended up pushing the scoreline all the way to 6-2, but it was Pulisic’s 77th minute that removed all doubt.
Pulisic’s goal came just three minutes after a Wendell finish that saw Bayer Leverkusen pull the score to 3-2. After playing the ball out wide, Pulisic’s late run into the box allowed him to smash home an Erik Durm cross, all but sealing the Borussia Dortmund win. The goal was Pulisic’s third league goal of the season and fifth career Bundelsiga finish.
In addition to his goal, Pulisic was also credited with an assist as he provided Raphael Guerreiro with Dortmund’s sixth and final goal of the match.
Here’s a closer look at Pulisic’s finish and assist below:

That's how you make an impact! 1 goal, 1 assist off the bench. Not bad, Pulisic. #BVBB04 #USMNT https://t.co/ZbGdgInDU5

The skill just to retain possession in the buildup to his goal! Wow, wow, wow. This kid has some serious talent.
Reus’ injury just opened the door for Pulisic to make this his starting spot. Play well and make the injury riddled Reus an off the bench sub.
He received an 8.9 rating by WhoScored. The only player rated higher was Dembele. With Reus out for the near future, CP should get ample opportunities to crack the starting 11
