Ever since Mike Petke accepted the managerial position with Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate, Real Monarchs, speculation brewed that RSL might be his next coaching destination.

What started as speculation when Jeff Cassar was still in charge of the club has turned into the truth, as FourFourTwo is reporting Petke will be installed as Cassar’s permanent replacement on Wednesday.

Real Salt Lake has scheduled a press conference to reveal its newest coach on Wednesday, and if Petke is the hire, he would lead RSL on the road against struggling expansion side Minnesota United.

Cassar lasted three games before being dismissed by the Claret and Cobalt at the start of the international break. Daryl Shore as appointed interim boss for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls, Petke’s former club.

  1. Nice guy but no clue. If someone can hire a Tony Meola to coach, I guess they can hire Petke. He must have been recommended by the people that recommended the Minnesota coach. Ah well

    • I’m no Petke fan and I thought the uproar to his dismissal with NYRB was hyperbolic hilarity. Especially when the fans were confirmed to be blowhard idiots when his successor blew away expectations and had fans admitting ignorance.

However, how on Earth you just compared Tony Meola getting a chance to manage, on name alone without merit, by a lowly expansion NASL club to Petke having some success in MLS is beyond me.

This would be a good time to link the infamous Billy Madison clip.
