Two defenders provided goals to lead their teams to victory while another American opened his goalscoring account with his new club.
In German action, John Brooks scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Hertha Berlin’s win over FC Augsburg. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender’s finish came just 12 minutes into the match and on a set piece situation, as Brooks deflected a rebounded shot from Vladimir Stocker for the game’s opener.
Eric Lichaj also found a goal over the weekend, tapping home from close range in Nottingham Forest’s win over David Wagner and Huddersfield Town. Finally, there was Mix Diskerud, who scored his first goal for IFK Goteborg in a win over Sirius.
They weren’t the only Americans to contribute to goals, though, as Bobby Wood notched an assist in a Hamburg win.
Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund came up short against Bayern Munich, Geoff Cameron and Stoke City fell to Liverpool and Jorge Villafana helped Santos Laguna earn a 1-0 win over Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca.
