Kaka, Giovinco remain highest earners in latest MLS salary data

On Tuesday afternoon, MLS Players Union announced the league’s 2017 salaries, and Orlando City’s star Kaka tops the list for a third straight season, while Paraguayan Miguel Almiron is Atlanta United’s highest-paid player.

The Brazilian star is making $7,167,500 in guaranteed compensation in 2017, but Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco is not too far behind at the number two spot, making a guaranteed $7,115,555 in 2017.

MLS newcomers, Atlanta United, spent approximately $4 million in salaries for their DP attacking trio of Miguel Almiron, Josef Martinez, and Hector Villalba. Almiron, being the highest earner at $2,297,000 for the 2017 season.

Vadim Demidov is Minnesota United’s highest-paid player making $555,008 for the 2017 season.

Michael Bradley’s $6.5 million salary this year continues to make him the highest paid American in the league, with Jozy Altidore coming second at $4,875,000.

New York City’s DP trio of David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, and newly acquired Maxi Moralez cost the club over $13.5 million.

Chicago Fire’s new DP signing Bastian Schweinsteiger is being paid $5.4 million for the season, according to the report, while LA Galaxy spent $1,999,400 for Romain Alessandrini’s services this season.

  1. Strange that LA saved $600 by paying Alessandrini less than $2 Million. Are they trying to make their budget or is it an illusion so his teammates don’t see that he is really making $2 Million ?

    • That is weird. Conversion rate from Euros? Doubt anyone on the Galaxy cares what Allesandrini makes. They’re all probably more concerned with the fact that Dos Santos is getting so much, considering how little he is contributing.

  2. I think it’s always interesting to look at these tables to see who seems over valued and who seems undervalued. Some things stuck out for me. Cyle Larin is still an amazing bargain. He must have gotten a multi-year contract when he signed as a rookie or else he seriously needs a new agent. He gets less than $200k, about the same as Diego Fagundez and both get only about one-third of what Juan Agudelo gets. Considering his scoring rate, BWP looks like a bargain at a little under $2 million. One nice thing is that you see a lot of lesser players making decent living wages over $100 and 200 k.
