Pulisic, Carter-Vickers among nominees for Golden Boy award

Two young Americans Abroad have been racking up strong performances in Europe and now have been nominated for one of the most prestigious youth awards around.

Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund and Cameron Carter-Vickers of Tottenham have both been nominated for Tuttosport’s European Golden Boy award for 2017. The award is considered one of the most prestigious awards for talented young players in European leagues, with previous winners such as Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, and Sergio Aguero earning the trophy since its 2003 establishment.

Pulisic has had a stunningly successful year for Borussia Dortmund, starting and scoring at a high clip in both Champions League and Bundesliga play, while also establishing himself as a key star on the international level with the U.S. Men’s National Team. Carter-Vickers has made four cup appearances for Tottenham this season, but is establishing himself as one of the brightest young defenders in England. He earned his first senior USMNT call-up in November 2016, but didn’t make an appearance.

No American has ever won the award, with only four of the 14 winners coming from outside of Europe, two from Argentina, and two from Brazil. While the award is given out by journalists, Tuttosport also runs a survey poll for fans to join in.

  1. Mbappe or Renato Sanchez would seem the favorites. I think in Europe most rate Dembele over CP. Rashford would be another favorite. The award apparently is based on the calendar year so the end of this season, any summer international play, and next fall so a lot could change, but I would give you a pretty good bet its one of those 5 that win the prize.
