Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Horvath, Wood, McKennie and more

Ethan Horvath and Club Brugge are bound for the Champions League, headlining the list of Americans Abroad that took the field as European leagues move towards a close.

The U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper made his fourth consecutive start on Sunday, helping lead Club Brugge to a 2-1 win over Gent. The win locks up the Belgian club’s spot in next season’s Champions League, where they will enter in the second qualifying round.

Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund also locked up their Champions League spot, while Bobby Wood and Hamburg sealed safety with one final win. Facing fellow relegation candidates Wolfsburg, Hamburg earned a late victory on Sunday, keeping them out of the relegation playoff.

Elsewhere, Weston McKennie made his highly-anticipated Schalke debut, Geoff Cameron and Stoke City ended the season on a high and Julian Green’s Stuttgart locked up the 2. Bundesliga title and a spot in the German top flight. Paul Arriola, Joe Corona and Club Tijuana were less fortunate, as Xolos fell to Tigres in the Liga MX semifinal.
