While one American was able to get his hands on a title on Sunday, two others sealed their spot in a playoff with statement wins.
DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle United wrapped up the English Championship title on Sunday in what proved a busy day for Americans within the league. Tim Ream and Fulham sealed their spot in the promotion playoff with a win while Danny Williams and Reading locked up a third-place finish with a victory of their own. On the other end of the table, Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest staved off relegation with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town that keeps them in the league for another season.
That relegation fight wasn’t as kind to Terrence Boyd and Darmstadt, who officially sealed a drop to the 2. Bundesliga over the weekend. Meanwhile in the German top flight, John Brooks made his return from injury to the Hertha Berlin lineup in what turned out to be a lopsided defeat.
Elsewhere, Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca fell just short of qualifying for the Liguilla despite a win while Ethan Horvath made his debut for Club Brugge in a win.

2 + weeks out from WCQing and a number of our Abroad players are regaining health & form….
Brooks, Wood, Yedlin, Cameron, Chandler, Lichaj,
Others (Villafana Arriola & Gonzalez) are continuing to make their case for inclusion with the “A” team, and not just emergency back-ups/replacements.
Leaving Fabian the last significant USNT player Abroad yet to return to action, and he was reportedly back to full training this week.
That just leaves our domestic players…most of whom are doing well….Dempsey, Morris, Jozy, Bradley, Besler, Zimmerman, Birnbaum. Leaving Nagbe, Jones, & Zardes working to get healthy.
Wait, Brooks is back, and immediately playing 90?
So much smoke and mirrors coming out of that club…
He’s a starter when he’s fit.
Yup. But the fact that he’s fully fit, what, 2-3 weeks after suffering a “torn hip muscle” is interesting.
This isn’t the first time Hertha has been misleading about Brooks’ health.
