After earning his first U.S. Men’s National Team cap in January, Walker Zimmerman appears to be a candidate for a Gold Cup call-up. However, a knee injury has cast a bit of doubt on the status of the FC Dallas defender.

FC Dallas announced on Tuesday that Zimmerman will miss four-to-six weeks with a with a MCL strain in his left knee. The injury forced Zimmerman out in the 24th minute of FC Dallas’ 0-0 draw with the Houston Dynamo on Sunday evening.

With that timeline in mind, Zimmerman’s return would come in late June or early July with the Gold Cup set to kick off on July 7. USMNT head coach Bruce Arena said in January that he was looking at Zimmerman as a potential Gold Cup selection in a team expected to be primarily MLS-based.

As for FC Dallas, the club will move on without their starting centerbacks heading into a match with Real Salt Lake. Fellow starter Matt Hedges is currently with the USMNT for camp ahead of a friendly against Venezuela and World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico.

  1. Just curious where is Miazga on the CB depth chart right now, I figured he would get called up for this camp and left off gold cup for his preseason

    • It really depends on who’s depth chart you’re speaking of (Arena’s, Media, or Fans)…..
Arena’s seems to be (based on his call-ups):
RCB: Cameron, Gonzalez, Hedges, Birnbaum/Miazga, EPB/Redding
      LCB: Brooks, Besler/Ream, Zimmerman, CCV/EPB
      Media:
RCB: Cameron, Hedges/Birnbaum, Gonzalez, Miazga, EPB, Redding
LCB: Brooks, Besler, CCV, Zimmerman, Ream,
      Fans:
RCB: Cameron (but they want him at CDM to bench Bradley), Gonzalez (but he always spaces out at least once per game), Hedges, Miazga, EPB
LCB: Brooks, CCV, Zimmerman, EPB, Besler (but he sucks), Ream (but he sucks).
