When asked if John Brooks was set to be available for the U.S. Men’s National Team’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago, Bruce Arena kept his answer simple.

“I don’t know.”

The defender, who recently completed a big-money move to Wolfsburg, is questionable for Thursday’s qualifier against T&T due to a bruised right quad. Brooks picked up the injury early in the second half in the USMNT’s friendly draw with Venezuela on Saturday.

According to ESPN, Brooks spent Sunday in treatment and rejoined USMNT training on Monday, partaking in the entire training session with the rest of his teammates.

The defender has been hampered by injuries throughout his USMNT career. Most recently, Brooks missed March’s World Cup qualifying match with Panama, an eventual 1-1 draw.

After taking on T&T on Thursday, the USMNT is set to travel to Mexico to play at the Azteca on Sunday.

  1. I’ve noticed Brooks plays to contact sometimes and tries to make a statement with subtle bumps, hip checks, shoulder to shoulder contact when not necessarily needed.
Either tone it down or put more meat on your bones.
I like Brooks skill set, especially when he is playing with confidence.

  2. Again.

I never know whether to feel sorry for guys like this, or feel mad because they are soft.
I guess you have to give them the benefit of the doubt….

  3. For a big guy, he certainly is fragile. If there’s any doubt, they should rest him for Mexico. They should be able to beat T&T without him.

    • The Mexico game caries higher stakes…so if there is any doubt he should be rested against T&T. He’ll then have a decent break before pre-season starts up for his new club.

People brooks size in contact sports often pick up minor knocks, especially towards the end of a long season when their tired and warn out. He’s still fairly young (24) for a full time starter in a top league so he’s still adjusting to the ware the season will put on him.

  4. I hope Wolfsburg kept the receipt for this guy. He’s going to make the trainers earn their money trying ti keep him on the pitch.
