The New York Red Bulls continued their strong run of form as they picked up another win, this time a 3-0 victory against Minnesota United at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday.
The scoring was opened early on courtesy of Daniel Royer, fresh off scoring a brace midweek. After receiving the ball from Felipe, the Austrian’s 16th minute strike was a stunner, as he scored from 25 yards out.
For their second, it was usual suspect Bradley Wright-Phillips, who scored in the 67th minute. The play started through counterattack, with Royer eventually finding last season’s Golden Boot winner near the penalty area. From there, it was a simple finish for Wright-Phillips, who only had goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth in his way.
Alex Muyl put the game to bed in the 90th minute, scoring the game’s final goal. Red Bulls captain Sacha Kljestan passed to the Homegrown player near the penalty area, and he was able to score from close range.
The win marks the first three-match winning streak on the road for the away side, while Minnesota has now gone a second consecutive game without scoring.
Man of the Match
It was a relatively short shift for Daniel Royer, but the midfielder made quite the impact in his 68 minutes with a goal and an assist. The midfielder’s opening goal allowed his team to keep Minnesota at bay, and he played a smart ball for the Red Bulls’ second in what has been an impressive week for him.
Moment of the Match
The opening goal, courtesy of Daniel Royer, was probably his most impressive strike in a Red Bulls uniform, striking from distance. Staring at the goal from 25 yards out, he managed to skillfully place it in the bottom left corner of the net.
Match to Forget
Michael Boxall’s MLS debut was not an impressive one. The center back did little to stop a persistent Red Bulls attack, and as part of a defense that leaked three goals, it showed.
