Report: Rubio Rubin to train with Stabaek

Rubio Rubin is in need of a new home, and it appears that home could be at a club familiar to many Americans.

Rubin is reportedly set to begin training with Stabaek in Norway, according to ESPN. Rubin is without a club after struggling to find playing time with Utrecht in the Netherlands and Silkeborg in Denmark last season.

The 21-year-old from Beaverton, Oregon could slot in for the potentially departing Ohi Omoijuanfo, who led the team in scoring last season, making him the target of multiple second tier English sides.

Rubin has had a mixed career in Europe. He spent three seasons with Utrecht, scoring three goals in 41 appearances in all competitions. He made an additional six appearances for their reserve club last season, but never scored or truly caught on with the team. He made the switch to Silkeborg in Denmark in the winter and only played in three games.

He’s been capped by the U.S. Men’s National Team four times, all of them in 2015 under Jurgen Klinsmann.

  1. This guy has really hit a roadblock in his development. Not giving up on him yet but he’s still got a lot of growing to do.

  2. I suspect the ankle injury he obtained at Utrecht was much worse than reported. He just has not been the same since the injury.
