Report: Mix Diskerud in talks to extend loan with IFK Goteborg

Mix Diskerud’s initial loan deal is set to expire in the near future but the American midfielder is hoping to extend his stay in Sweden.

According to ESPN, DiskerudĀ is in talks to have his loan to Swedish club IFK Goteborg extended through the end of 2017. The midfielder initially joined the club back in March on loan from NYCFC but the original loan agreement is set to expire on Aug. 27. Diskerud’s contract with NYCFC, meanwhile, runs through the end of the 2018 MLS season.

Earlier this week, Diskerud said he hoped to extend his stay with the club, according to Fotboll Transfers.

“I’d love to stay. I like the guys and the club,” he said. “My people are talking to the club here and then on with the club over there. There are three parties. Hopefully, it will be resolved.”

Diskerud has made 19 appearances since joining the Swedish side scoring three goals. The club currently sits ninth in the Allsvenskan, the top flight of Swedish soccer.

  1. Does Mix’s value not show up in the stats, rather some intangible assets or does is he chronically ineffectual every club he plays for

    • He’s a midfielder most aren’t going to score a lot unless they are in an attacking position which according to a few sites Gotenberg doesn’t use (I haven’t seen them play). 3 goals 3 assists isn’t bad compared to these USMNTeamers in MLS who have played similar amounts of games.

      Bradley 0 goals 1 assist
      Bedoya 0 goals 2 assists
      Nagbe 2 goals 2 assists
      Accosta 3 goals 2 assists
Danny Willams 1 goal 0 assists in all of last season.

Mix has a pretty good computer rating for the league according to whoscored.com, take that for what it’s worth, one of the better RMs in the league and one of the best players on his team.

      • Thanks, I didn’t know his stats from his new team. I liked Mix, hate to see him not get any minutes with NYC

  2. If I’m remembering this correctly, didn’t NYCFC buy out Diskerud’s contract which effectively released him? That’s the headline I recall, at least. I’m still unclear on why they have to negotiate with NYCFC as a result.

    • Had to go back and read articles from March, it seems that it is MLS that owns Mix’s rights, not NYCFC because they bought him out to avoid the salary cap hit. It sounds like if the loan expires Mix would either have to buy out the last year of his contract with MLS to sign for another MLS team through the waiver process. The quotes come from a Swedish article so perhaps rather than explain the complex MLS process to the local audience they just said they are negotiating with NYCFC.

  3. Seems like a no brainer at this point, perhaps NYCFC is asking for more money to pay down Mix’s contract, but I can’t believe this won’t get done.
