UPDATED: Jordan Morris suffers hamstring injury against Galaxy

The U.S. Men’s National Team will need all hands on deck at the start of October, but they could be without one of their top forwards after Sunday.

During the Seattle Sounders’ match against the LA Galaxy, Jordan Morris pulled up with a hamstring injury. The team later confirmed Morris suffered a hamstring strain.

“We’ll take a look at it — there’s nothing we can do about it tonight,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said. “Obviously he’s got pretty good care, so he’ll be fine.”

(UPDATE: SI is reporting that Morris will miss the rest of the MLS regular season and will not be available for the USMNT’s World Cup Qualifiers against Panama and Trinidad and Tobago in October.)

  1. A few yeard ago Jordan Morris looked like the future of the USMNT from an attacking standpoint..

Now the game seems a little to fast for him..

He seems like he’s accepted the title of role player with an occasional shot on frame..

    Its a shame..

Dont know whether his scoring woes result from the recent upheaval in the program or something else…

When he’s on he is a high energy guy with fantastic skill in front of the net..

The type that can challenge any opponent at any level..

He played well in the Gold Cup and couldve won the golden boot if not for a few shots off the woodwork..

It just seems that hes not in a confident rhythm for club or country..

Classic example of a player under extreme pressure who may have nursed a serious injury for some time

    • The Squad, that is what MLS will do to a player with a lot of potential. You may be right, he will never be as good as Bobby Wood, for example, or Clint Dempsey, or Eric Wynalda for that matter, and this is why.

    • My own theory about Morris is that he doesn’t have enough of a striker’s mentality. He is so much a team player and he needs to be more selfish and more hungry around the box. While it is laudable and important to be a team player, I think he could score more if he was more intent on that. He needs to step forward and be more aggressive. Instead, he seems to look to other players to make things happen with him helping out. He needs to be the guy who makes things happen. I saw him interviewed once and he was asked if he saw himself more as a scorer/striker or a forward. He said forward. I think he views himself as someone who sets up others first and foremost, like a point guard in basketball who is pass first. He needs to be the player who shoots as much as he passes while in the box.

  2. Hamstrings can take a long time to heal. I wouldn’t count on him for the next round of qualifiers. On the good news front, Zardes has scored in each of his last two games, so maybe he has gotten his mojo back.

  3. Dwyer? I know he’s not lighting it up, but against CONCACAF opponents, he could be useful. He’s a menace and scrappy player which is needed against those type of opponents.

  4. Get well soon! His energy and pace gives defenses problems. He’s kinda like Zardas in that regards. Not the most technical, but defenses hate defending against an can open up spaces for others.

  5. Love some of the tools Morris has, but his production this season does not warrant NT consideration. Not sure we have any better options, but not sure he will be missed on the US either.
