Kamara’s hat-trick propels Revs to rout of Orlando City

Orlando City’s fading playoff hopes took another hit, while the New England Revolution breathed life into their own chances with a 4-0 win over the Lions on Saturday night.

Kei Kamara notched a hat-trick while Lee Nguyen tied an MLS record with four assists in the win.

Kamara opened the scoring after 26 minutes, finishing off Scott Caldwell’s assist from close range. After five consecutive corner kick opportunities, Giles Barnes forced Cody Cropper into his first save of the evening.

Dillon Powers’ 45th-minute header was Orlando City’s best chance at equalizing before the halftime break.

Dom Dwyer was next to be kept out by Cropper, who saved the Orlando City forward’s header from inside the box in the 67th minute. Kamara made the visitors pay for their missed efforts, doubling the Revolution’s lead from his second right-footed finish of the evening.

Jose Aja was sent off for Orlando City after 80 minutes, after picking up a second yellow card. Kamara capped his hat-trick in the 89th minute, tapping home from Nguyen’s assist for a 3-0 lead.

Teal Bunbury added an insurance goal in the 92nd minute, scoring his sixth goal of the current campaign. The Revs earned their first win since Aug. 12th, winning 4-0.

The Revs (9-12-5) leaped into eighth place with the win, and next welcome the Montreal Impact to town on Sept. 9th. Orlando City sits in 10th place, and continues a four-match road trip on Sept. 9th in D.C.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Kamara’s hat trick earned the Sierra Leone international top honors. It was the 33-year-old’s first MLS hat trick, which now boosts him to 11 goals scored on the year.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Kamara’s second goal of the evening stamped the three points for the Revolution. Orlando City had their offensive chances, but could not beat Cropper who was fairly quiet on the night. After Kamara’s second goal, the Revs scored for fun two additional times.

MATCH TO FORGET

Jose Aja would want to forget this match and asap, after being sent off. The 24-year-old lost possession eight times, and really killed any opportunity for his side to try to muster a comeback.

  1. Lee has never been given a fair shot at the NATs. Klinsmann gave him a couple token runs. Arena wont even do that. I totally believe he’s better than Nagbe but I doubt we’ll ever know. Arena plays favorites come Hell or high water and others need not apply

  2. Yes, but Lee can only play on the Nats if the games are in Gillette… Because he and the team have been a massive pile of turds on the road. I also like how every time the Revs win a home game there are articles like “Revs gain momentum” or “Revs make late push to playoffs!” They have 3 out of 39 points on the road. I think Bob Kraft makes them travel via scooter to away games.

  3. Note to Arena – hope you watched the game though after your beat down by CR it’s douptful. If you did, you would have seen how a real AM can finish a chance…… something Nagbe will never do. Lee N was given an inch and buried it. Yes, they disallowed the goal but that’s not the point. Lee was onside, beat his man and put the ball where the goalie couldnt get it. Also from the MLS website:

Lee Nguyen made a bit of MLS history on Saturday, tying an all-time record by recording four assists in a single match. He’s now in some seriously elite company, joining Landon Donovan, Carlos Valderrama, Dwayne De Rosario and Chris Henderson as the only players to ever record four assists in an MLS game.

Think of that the next time you shun Lee. Nagbe isnt on that list, nor is Dax…
