Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Bobby Wood, DeAndre Yedlin and more

Bobby Wood faces a massive test over the weekend, headlining the contingent of Americans Abroad.

The U.S. Men’s National Team forward takes on Bayern Munich on Saturday as Hamburg looks to pull a major upset on the reigning Bundesliga champions. Any sort of Hamburg result would be a major boost for current leaders Borussia Dortmund, who could see Christian Pulisic feature in a match against Timmy Chandler and Eintracht Frankfurt

In England, DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle have an opportunity to pick up some points against lowly Crystal Palace while Danny Williams and Huddersfield face an uphill battle against Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Weston McKennie could make his return from injury, Jonathan Gonzalez looks to bounce back from Monterrey’s first defeat midweek and Matt Miazga and Vitesse take on Heerenveen.

    • Tweeted a picture of himself on the exercise bike with caption be back soon. Somewhere else someone said he had an illness. Your guess is as good as mine.

    • It was definitely his knee that was being iced on the bench. Didn’t look good at all. There was nobody near him, he just took a bad step or something. That’s usually a bad sign.

    • Villafana will be 33 at the next World Cup, he’s already a step slow against CONCACAF opponents don’t want to see what he would do against Portugal. Chandler and Williams will be 32 or 33 as well, might be needed next month with MLSers in the playoffs, but no point in using any of those three after November. Altidore unlikely to play in November with the MLS playoffs.
