Jonathan Klinsmann, son of former U.S, Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, is slated to make his senior team debut with Hertha Berlin this week when they take on Ostersunds FK in the Europa League. Manager Pal Dardai announced the move on Wednesday afternoon:
#Dardai: "There will be some surprises in the starting line-up. Thomas #Kraft is ill and Rune #Jarstein will not be available. Jonathan #Klinsmann will play in goal tomorrow." #BSCOFK #hahohe pic.twitter.com/qirWhq0f45

Klinsmann joined the club over the summer and featured for the U.S. U-20 National Team in the U-20 World Cup in South Korea. He’s only played for Hertha’s reserve side so far this season.
Hertha are eliminated from Europa League contention, but have the chance to play spoiler for Ostersunds FK, who will win Group J with a victory.
His distribution at the youth World Cup was atrocious. For his sake, I hope that part of his game has improved. One of the most frustrating parts of watching the last World Cup cycle is our goalies constantly kicking the ball out of bounds, we’re giving it right back to the opposing team.
Nice to have another young american player in bundesliga, and his debut is
coming Wish a very luck
Ill I think of when I hear this name is Landon Donovan
Considering how little pro experience Klinsmann has to this point, this is a very significant step for this still very young man.
Wonder if there will be calls for his immediate call-up to the national team since he’s starting for a Bundesliga club?
Well, you figure it’s him, Hamid, or Zach Steffen at this point, maybe Jesse Gonzalez. Considering it’s 5 years before our next World Cup we’re thoroughly into “next” and we pretty much need to pick a couple of young guys and stick with them.
Would it shock you if he and Steffen ended up being those two? Hamid’s decent but hasn’t really gone next-level despite finally moving to Europe and Gonzalez – like most of FC Dallas – had a second-half-of-the-season to thoroughly forget.
These ain’t the old days when we had 3-4 starting EPL keepers to pick from.
Given that he’s only playing because the #1 and #2 keepers are unavailable I’m not sure we can really pencil him into your list just yet. Plus Hertha is eliminated and the other squad clinched so it’s basically a meaningless match.
There will be a faction that will disqualify him forever because when he was 16 he made a joke to his friends about Donovan being left off the WC squad not realizing grown adults were following him on twitter hoping to glean secret information on the national team.
yeah, that chuckle on his instagram account gave everyone that assumed something was going on behind the scenes with regards to Klinsmann and LD’s relationship some validity unfortunately smdh
Good for him, could lead to more significant mins or maybe a winter loan either way it’s a big accomplishment
