Report: Beckham ownership group undergoes shake-up

With uncertainty still looming large, David Beckham’s Miami MLS bid has undergone a big shake-up within the ownership group.

According to the Miami Herald, majority partner Todd Boehly is officially out while Miami moguls Jorge and Jose Mas have joined the venture. Boehly, the co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was set to be the majority owner and controlling partner. However, the Mas brothers bring local ownership that MLS Commissioner Don Garber stated was vital in last week’s State of the League address.

Jorge Mas was recently beaten out by Derek Jeter’s group in the push to sign Major League Baseball’s Miami Marlins.

According to the report,  Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son is also being recruited to join the ownership group and could become the majority owner.

  2. Old school SBI Mafia here…this is excellent news! Haven’t slept this good in four years plus since 2002 when we lost our beloved Fusion! The Mas family are very prominent established Cuban Americans in the Engineering and Technology industries…perfect fit to built a stadium! Hey Miami is always complicated and running late on Latin time so MLS launch is no different! Becks will be a great ambassador and Claure is an intrical part trying to bring team here for 10years…it will be jewel in MLS Crown!

  3. The entire Miami project reminds me of playing Double Dribble in the 80s, when your guy would go up for a slow-motion dunk and then clang the ball to half-court.
