After spending two seasons in Scotland and Denmark, U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Perry Kitchen is on his way back to MLS,
The LA Galaxy have sent $200,000 in Targeted Allocation Money and $100,000 in General Allocation Money to D.C. United to acquire the MLS rights of the 25-year-old midfielder. The deal was first reported by ESPN.
Following the trade for his rights, the Galaxy are set to complete a free transfer for Kitchen, who last played for Randers in the Danish SuperLiga.
“Perry has proven himself to be a top midfielder in Major League Soccer during his time with D.C. United,” said Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He has continued to progress during his time in Europe and we are confident he can bolster our midfield. At only 25 years old, Perry is already an MLS veteran and will be a great addition to the LA Galaxy on and off the field.”
Kitchen played the last two years overseas after leaving D.C. United for Hearts in Scotland in 2016.
The 25-year-old made 158 appearances for D.C. over five seasons recording 10 goals and 10 assists.
Now, Kitchen joins a strong midfield unit with the Galaxy featuring Sebastian Lletget, Jonathan dos Santos, Romain Alessandrini and Giovani dos Santos.

Kitchen is known for his back passes, square passes, and runs bow legged. He doesn’t offer anything more than what J dos Santos can provide. Didn’t they also just sign Carrasco, who is of the same ilk?
I’m not a LAG fan, but probably start Pedro back there with JDS so they complement each other’s style.
Only good thing out of this is we got $300k for nothing. 🙂
Kitchen is a true 6. JDS is a sub-par 8 in my opinion. Kitchen will cover ground and get stuck the F in. Protect the backline, win the ball, short pass to a creator, repeat. That’s what the Galaxy were missing, and it’s what Kitchen is capable of providing.
Kitchen is a good pick-up. He’s shown he’s more than capable to compete at the MLS level, and considering how bad the Galaxy were last year he can only help. Sigi tends to favor the 4-2-3-1 formation, and with the addition of Kitchen he gets a true CDM for his midfield…

I haven’t seen too much of that talk actually, I think most respect Kitchen’s play. He is a good player, but the idea that he is going to take a VERY weak LA team and turn them around single handedly just isn’t going to happen.
They need more, maybe they have young guys in the system that none of us know about.

Well the Galaxy should be good now. Buy a player that a team which finished tied for last doesn’t want, to help you not finish tied for dead last.

I don’t understand the Galaxy, it was sooooo easy to predict them finishing last, last year.
And they are doing almost nothing to solve. That being said at least he is a starting move. On Jan 8th. Less than 2 months away from kick off.
I’m somewhat surprised he didn’t want to go back to DC to open up the new stadium. I wonder if he burnt a few bridges there when he left.
