Report: NYCFC holding out for more as Stoke City improves offer for Jack Harrison

Stoke City’s pursuit of Jack Harrison continues, but NYCFC is reportedly holding out for a bit more.

According to Goal USA, the Potters have increased their bid for the 21-year-old English winger from $4.5 million to $7 million in the days since the initial offer was turned down. According to the report, the bid could rise up to $10 million with incentives.

NYCFC is reportedly pushing for a higher fee as the club would only receive 50 percent of the sale if Harrison were to be sold this season. If the winger was sold after the 2018 campaign, that percentage would jump up to 75 percent.

If the fee were to reach the $10 million mark, it would equal Jozy Altidore’s 2008 transfer to Villarreal as the largest fee ever paid to sign an MLS player.

Harrison, who has also been linked to West Ham and Leicester City, was born in Stoke before eventually joining Manchester United’s youth setup. As things stand, Patrick Vieira says the winger is focused entirely on NYCFC as the club begins preseason.

  1. 10 million for Jack Harrison? They should take the 7.5 and run. They can only spend 600,000 on other players no matter what correct?

  2. Well, if I were the NYCFC GM, I’d take the money. Harrison, as much as I have seen, shows a lot of promise, But even if NYCFC gets only half the money, they could still purchase a couple of good players for the money and depth is still an issue for MLS clubs.

  3. 1. The transfer fee rules in MLS have got to change. There’s just not enough incentive for clubs to develop and move players and re-invest that money in more transfer fees for better players.

    2. I hope NYCFC do keep holding out for higher. English nationals are absurdly valuable in the Premier League and MLS shouldn’t take a low ball offer. Granted he isn’t proven in the Championship or PL yet, but it’s pretty obvious he’s got the skill. At minimum there needs to be a large % of sell on fee coming back to NYCFC too.

    • The kid wants the move so if thats the case get the most out of it you can and move on. If NYCFC can get 10mil for Harrison although to a EPL club then Orlando better get at least close that for Larin.

    • Listen, if become know as a club or organization that does not sell players, you start to deter high quality players who want to use MLS as a jumping off point for places like EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 or Serie A.

And no MLS is not their level. If we are luckly, really lucky, we have 4 players per team on just good enough to be on avg teams in those leagues as roster players.
