U.S. Soccer grants USL Division 2 status for 2018

The USL will continue to operate as a Division 2 league in American soccer for 2018.

The U.S. Soccer board of directors approved that sanctioning this past weekend during a meeting in New York.

USL has continued to grow in stature with 33 teams prepared to take the field for the 2018 campaign, including four expansion franchises and two former NASL members.

The sanctioning process, which occurs annually, also approved MLS and the NWSL as Division 1 leagues for the upcoming season.

  1. Its pretty crazy to see the strides this league has taken since I started following my local club in 2011. From only one club west of Dayton Ohio, Antigua playing all their games on the road, and three Puerto Rico teams that only played a quarter of the season, its surprising I still have a club and this league is not only still here but thriving.

    • Phew, I have been very worried about that. What if they said it was Div 3 and Div 4? Would have wrecked the 2018 season. Would they have even have had a champion?
Don’t even get me started….if they had gone to Div Green or Purple. oh my.

Hopefully baseball will grant the AAA leagues as Div 2 and 2018 will be fine. Stayed tuned.
