Lee Nguyen reports to Revolution preseason camp

After holding out over two weeks,New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen reported to preseason camp on Friday.

The 31-year-old asked to be traded this offseason in hopes of continuing his career elsewhere. The decision by Nguyen reportedly had nothing to do with the hiring of Brad Friedel as head coach.

After reporting to camp on Friday, Nguyen is expected to return to training once he is deemed fit.

Nguyen has been with the Revolution since 2012, and was an MLS MVP finalist back in 2014. During his time with the club, Nguyen has tallied 53 goals and 33 assists in 199 MLS appearances. The Texas native has also played for PSV of the Dutch Eredivisie and Randers FC of the Danish Superliga.

Nguyen, who holds dual citizenship in both the United States and Vietnam has earned nine caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

  1. Can you blame the guy for holding out and trying to go somewhere and finish his career with a team on the upswing? The team and owners have no ambition, they play in a cavernous football stadium with a crap artificial surface; I can barely watch them when their games are televised.

For weeks and months I’ve been reading on SBI about all the great signings by other teams and the money they’re splashing out; now I realize spending lots of cash doesn’t guarantee anything, but at least they’re trying. In Foxboro, nothing but crickets. The Revs are simply a way for the Krafts to make some money during the spring and summer with an otherwise mostly empty stadium.

Sorry to sound like a Negative Nancy, but I’ve followed this team since their inception, being a soccer fan for 45+ years. I had lots of hope for them over the last 20 years, but at this point, that’s gone. They will muddle along as usual with mediocre players, end up in the middle or lower part of the MLS pack and be lucky to make the play-offs. When and until three things happen, nothing will change. A – a change in ownership B – a new soccer specific stadium C – or relocation.

    • I can’t disagree. I’ve followed my team (the wizards) since the beginning too and know what a devoted ownership group is capable of.
