MLS Saturday: Your Running Commentary

The MLS season is here, and it begins on Saturday with some intriguing matchups.

It all starts at BMO Field as the defender MLS Cup champion Toronto FC host the Columbus Crew to open the season. Action then moves to Houston as the Dynamo host Atlanta United in a clash of two of the league’s top attacks.

In the evening, the Philadelphia Union host the New England Revolution in Brad Friedel’s head coaching debut while a new-look Orlando City faces off with D.C. United. Fresh off of their midweek CONCACAF Champions League loss, FC Dallas hosts Real Salt Lake in a clash of two Western Conference playoff contenders.

The day then concludes in San Jose as the Earthquakes host Minnesota United in the day’s final match.

  1. Carleton will not make his first start as some experts had predicted (hoped) Gressell will start instead. Probably the correct move by Tata, but certainly not as fun.

  2. Well at least for the next two hours the Crew are on top of the MLS table. They look today to have the pieces to contend, didn’t miss Kamara and Meram today. Toronto unlucky to have not scored on a couple of occasions.

  3. MLS Live is free until ESPN+ starts up later this Spring. Just sign up for a username. Higuain with the first goal of the MLS season. A little against the run of play, but decent match so far given the poor field and windy weather and it being the season opener for Crew.
