Hamburg knew that to remain a Bundesliga club for next season, they had to give it a go in the final matches of the season.
Christian Titz’s side moved a step closer to league safety with a 3-1 road win at Wolfsburg on Saturday, and a U.S. international played a huge role in the victory.
Bobby Wood snapped a 19-match run without a goal, scoring the opener for Hamburg at Volkswagen Arena. After Tatsuya Ito drew a penalty inside of the box on the verge of halftime, the American striker stepped up and scored his second league goal of the season.

Lewis Holtby extended the visitors lead to 2-0 in the 45th minute to double Hamburg’s halftime advantage.
Josip Brekalo pulled a goal back for Wolfsburg in the 78th minute, but the visitors would have the final say in the result.
Gian-Luca Waldschmidt scored Hamburg’s third of the afternoon, tapping home from a rebound in the 93rd minute.
The victory was Hamburg’s second in a row, which sees them sitting two points from safety with matches against Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach remaining.
Wood, who has three goals in all competitions this season will hope for continued playing time during this important stretch for Hamburg.
Rob thanks for being Rob. Nobody said Wood is playing well. But if you watch their games it is clear that noone gets many chances on that team. I watch most of their games, Hunt,Holtby, are the best they ave and they are average at their best. Guys like Steinmann, Kostic, Jatta, Ekdal…. fill their midfield. Its attrocious. Wood has missed a few chances, for sure. I think his play is not nearly aggressive enough. Both have to improve.

It’s disgraceful to watch the way Wood is treated for scoring 2 goals in a season and how Jozy was treated years back.
What a load of bullshit from everybody. Bobby has no goals because he keeps missing easy chances. Same reason why he rarely plays. Blaming the rest of the team is dishonest and delusional.

Good for Bobby … kind of disappointed though. I believe he has a release clause if HSV go down. This team has be CRAP for a long time (anybody remember the Julian Green fiasco?) and they seem to have no clue how to get unstuck. #Shambolic
Agreed 3 goals. They act as if Aaron Hunt is Iniesta or something. He contributes to a goal once every 6 weeks, and turns the ball over once ever 60 seconds. Bobby was back making aggressive runs today. He had kind of stoppedmaking those runs down the channels, probably because noone could get him the ball. He had a nice pass to Kostic at the end that should have been a goal, except for a nice save fom the keeper. He looked better. Not where ne needs to be, but better. I am enouraged.
I’m a big Bobby Wood fan and was happy when he signed with Ham but it is a terrible situation right now. I hope he gets out and goes somewhere stable. I would rather him be playing in 2 bundesliga or championship side on a regular basis than a team trying to survive relegation year after year especially when the lack of service is somehow blame on the strikers. Don’t get me wrong he hasn’t had the best of years but it’s the team has been pretty bad all together

I don’t believe so but a few years ago I was drinking. I’m actually a jozy fan and think he still is the second best striker the US has. I’m a big believer in Playing the youth but I think you man crush on jozy is clouding your memory but if I am wrong let me know I can admit to that.
Nice for Bobby to score again, his first Bundesliga goal since August. Also, nice to see him back in the starting lineup.
