Andrew Carleton scores in U.S. U-20 loss to Honduras

Atlanta United’s Andrew Carleton gave the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team a first-half advantage in its friendly against Honduras, but it wasn’t enough to produce a victory.

Carleton gave the Americans the lead in the 32nd minute, but the Central American nation responded with three consecutive goals to win 3-1.

Carlos Mejia, Patrick Palacios and Gerson Chavez netted tallies for Honduras in the come-from-behind win.

The contest was the first of two taking place in quick succession between the U.S. and Honduras, with the second slated for Saturday.

  1. Wasn’t aware of that there was a U-20 camp so looked up the players on the squad. Only recognized 2…Goslin & Carleton. Not sure who’s all age eligible for the current U-20 cycle but have to imagine that a number of the last U-17 leaders were unavailable/excluded (Weah, Acosta, Dest, Durkin, Gloster). Would have to assume that this was a group of fringe players with a couple usual’s thrown in to provide guidance in order to see what level the depth 3rd stringers were at in the event Tab cannot get his 1st & 2nd tier players released for the youth WC qualification tournament.

    • Somewhat Llanez and Ledesma are rated very highly and seen as closer to MLS now than Carleton. They are missing guys especially those in Europe. Also as you said top guys like Amon, Sargent, and Weah may not be available if they continue to progress. Efrain Alvarez is a California kid that is playing for Mexico youth teams, but we need him he is the real deal. Six goals over last 3 USL matches and not eve 16 until June. Of course Los Dos plays no defense.
