  1. 3 games in TX. 2 of which are in Houston and not one game in the whole state of Florida? Granted the tournament is during the summer so you want to avoid hot weather but Houston is as hot as Florida.

  2. Is this the tournament where mighty Barbados, Turks and Caicos and other superpowers participate, that culminates in a mighty pointless US v. Mexico game? No, thanks…should have played in a real tournament, like Copa America…but I guess beating footballing midgets by 5-6 goals and patting ourselves on the back is better…(commence “not” joke in 3-2-1…)
    This tournament has zero relevance…

    • Shock and dismay, a North American and Caribbean championship that includes other teams!! Copa America is another region’s tournament, and maybe we shouldn’t be competing for the best team in South America???

Subtle reality is Guyana, Suriname, etc. are in South America but compete in CONCACAF. Trinidad is closer to Venezuela than Cuba is to Miami. But guess where it goes? So they have this taut tournament with few minnows, and then you get to complain how CONCACAF looks.

The Euros do fine with their mix of giants and minnows and they accomplish that with a similar number of entrants, by having qualifying and in fact ensuring teams like the US play minnows, but instead in qualifying and not the tournament itself. Then only the best teams play in the tournament.

      • Voice- Not sure why are going out of your way to defend the Gold Cup. It’s a $hitty tournament, everyone here knows it. At least with the Euros or Copa, you know that your quarter final match ups and moving forward will feature stiff completion. So I echo what Ivan said. Besides, no USMNT fan wants to hear about the GC just weeks before a World Cup that we are not competing in.
