U.S. Men’s National Team defender Tim Ream was one of the key figures in Fulham’s promotion push, and he picked up a deserved honor on Monday.

The center back, who played 47 matches for the Cottagers, was named Fulham’s Player of the Year over forward Ryan Sessegnon.

Ream logged 4,230 minutes in Championship action, as he led Fulham to third place in the English second division.

Fulham powered past Derby County in the promotion playoffs before knocking off Aston Villa in the playoff final to earn a spot in the Premier League for the 2018-19 campaign.

“For the fifth time, an American has been named English club Fulham’s player of the season.

After Brian McBride in 2005-06 andf 2006-07 and Clint Dempsey in 2010-11 and 2011-12, defender Tim Ream was honored for his play during the Cottagers’ 2017-18 season that ended with them winning promotion.

Ream, 30, played every minute of his 47 starts for the London club in the Championship. He was also named player of the season twice at Bolton Wanderers, where he spent his first five seasons in England.

Ream beat out 18-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, considered one of the top young players in England. Sessegnon led Fulham with 15 Championship goals.”

    • And last year Lichaj was Player of the Year for Nottingham Forest and, if my memory is correct, Stu Holden was the same for Bolton one year. This kind of success makes it easier for future Americans to get consideration. Keep it up, lads!

      • Tim Ream a great story overall. He came up around the same time with Agudelo, Bunbury and Shea. 2018 Ream turn out the best player from a disappointing crop

  3. But it wasn’t just Sess was it? MacDonald, who plays right in front of Ream, was amazing. Cairney as well. (Great Scot, two Scots!) The award is awesome. Timmy’s strongest season. Especially since Boxing Day. But this whole team was great together.

  4. Huge accomplishment. Sessignon is very highly rated. Props to Ream. I havent always believed in him. But he has added some toughness or “bite” to his game.

    • He struggles when he’s played out of position at left back and needs to chase down speedy wingers. If played centrally, his lack of speed would not hurt him.

    • I don’t think its fair to judge him for the US. He hasn’t had much run at CB. If he does well next year in the EPL then doesn’t he deserve a shot to start at next year Gold Cup?
