Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Emmanuel Sabbi, Timothy Weah, and more

Emmanuel Sabbi found his first season with Danish Superliga side Hobro IK tough, but this season has seen the striker find his groove in the opening matches.

Sabbi led Hobro to their first win of the season on Saturday, scoring a pair of goals in their 3-2 triumph over Odense. The forward netted three minutes apart in what was a three-goal haul for the hosts in the opening half. The 22-year-old now has four goals in three matches this season, three more than he tallied all of last season.

Elsewhere, Timothy Weah scored his first Ligue 1 goal for PSG on Sunday in their season opening match. Lynden Gooch registered an assist in Sunderland’s league draw at Luton Town, while Michael Orozco and Omar Gonzalez both started in their Liga MX clash.

  1. Way too early roster prediction for September Friendlies
GK: Guzan, Steffan, Bono (No Hamid DCU plays Sat. and Wed.)
Def: Robinson, Brooks, Miazga, CCV, Zimmerman, Parker, Moore, Cannon, Lichaj
MF: McKinnie, Adams, Trapp, Bradley (sorry I can’t see him not called against Brazil and Mexico), Gooch,
FW: Pulisic, Weah, Zardes, Green, Sargent, Wood
    ————————————————————————————————————————
Also didn’t include Williams and Saief because they have not returned from injury, unsure on Chandler as he played in a few friendlies this Summer but did not dress for Super Cup.
    ————————————————————————————————————————
Hopefully, Sabbi, Gall, and Amon appear at some point this fall, but not sure Sarachen will choose Brazil and Mexico as the time. Nova could be included if he gets a goal or two in the next few weeks.
    ————————————————————————————————————————
Acosta, Villafana, Arriola, and Hamid all have matches that weekend, only Villa’s club is really in the playoff fight though.
    ————————————————————————————————————————-
I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone if I did it was accidental. Obviously, if Yedlin is available he is called in. I do not need to see Bradley, but I just feel Sarachen will bring him this time.

    • Only person you forgot was emo and I have been saying for awhile now that he should be called up. If Del la Torre, Moore, and u23 kid from Man U Ols… However u spell his last name and the other kid from Tijuana amando get calls how do u not call up Hyndman? He plays a position of need an attacking CM which the US lacks. There is an article on the Edinburgh times that already says to expect good things. I know its the Scottish league but its first team mins for a young kid in a position of need. The US have no other option with his technical ability other than CP who(in my opinion) is better out wide right now

  2. 18 yr old Sebastian Soto, RSL Academy Player, has joined Hannover’s U19 squad and started in their opener. Chris Gloster also plays for them and started at LB.

  3. Sabbi is certainly making a case for a look in the upcoming friendlies.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard any rumors of potential candidates for manager, Earnie has been on the job for two weeks. I’m all for let’s get this right, but some hints would be nice.

  4. Just adding a bit more about Young Tim Weah …

FACTOID: He scored 24 years apart from when his dad (George) scored for PSG

NOTE: Timothy Weah came off the bench, had his first shot attempt (from a tight angle) strike the inside of the post and carom back to the keeper – Then went on and “scored ONE goal, and played eight minutes in PSG’s 3-0 win over Caen on Sunday.”

  5. Also with maybe Yedlin out for awhile(not sure of injury yet) I wouldn’t mind seeing a 3 or 5 at the back whichever way u want to see it for usmnt for next set a friendlies. Something like a JB, MM and TP/CCV/EPB with AR and TA as wing backs would be nice

  6. With Nantes and Breda getting crushed it wouldn’t surprise to see Miazga and EPB in their next match

  7. How weird it seems that Tim Ream was voted Fulham’s most valuable player last year but he doesn’t even dress for their opening match. Is he hurt or did they bring in some top notch players who are ahead of him?

    • I also believe they brought in 2 CBs for a decent size fee so at his age and a jump to epl like I said a day or two ago getting mins would be tough barring injury to others.

      • It is a little odd they signed 3 CBs this Summer and signed Ream to an extension. They seem to only have 1 LB, but I can’t believe you’d try Ream at age 30 back at LB in the EPL. Perhaps they are thinking about using 3 CBs once everyone is fit?

      • Your welcome, my day job as a teacher starts this week though so my free time will be limited. I follow about five or six guys on twitter who specialize in Americans abroad and then try to track a couple others. Luckily Parks is in the 2nd division, guys in the fourth divisions or on English U23 squads are really hard to find info on though.
