The U.S. Men’s National Team will face Brazil on September 7 at MetLife Stadium and they now know the squad of players that will line up against them.
The Seleção released a 24-man squad that will come to New Jersey to face the USMNT before heading down the Atlantic coast to face El Salvador in Washington D.C.
It’s a pretty star-heavy lineup. Neymar will make the trip from Paris for the match, and Liverpool is sending all of the Brazilian firepower over as well. Also highlighting the team are Chelsea’s Willian, Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, and Juventus’s Douglas Costa.

Wow they are bringing the A team, gotta admit I’m surprised. I hope this doesn’t cause us to call in a bunch of “veterans”. Still not sure I agree with throwing the young guys into the fire like this, but I definitely don’t see any value in playing the team from the last cycle.
This is EXACTLY the type of match you need to throw your younger players into. It counts for nothing and I’m sure after the last match against the WC champs France, where they held their own, these players will look forward to another test.
I think though, that Sarachan will look to more domestic based players to fill out the bench, but bring over some of the young stars from Europe.
Who cares about Brazil? We’ve played them 18 times and won once when Keller shut them out in 1998. Since then we’ve lost ten in a row by an average of two goals. If Brazil brings even a B squad and has any desire to play they will beat us by at least 2 goals no matter who is out there for the US.

my two cents: what does the “kick off series” look like? it looks like ussoccer (mls board) anticipated the usa qualifying for the wc in Russia and you know BRINGING IN A LOT OF CASH and you know WHEN THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN they were suddenly like oh snap what can we do? and so they very quickly threw together this us soccer “world tour” to make up for the revenues lost by not playing in the world cup in russia.

i think this is MIND-NUMBINGLY STUPID. if you really care about the new generation of our players then THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO GROOM THEM. you should give then challenges of gradually increasing difficulty until yes they are on this elite level BUT YOU DON’T START THEM HERE.
2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, if you count in the couple times Brazil was invited by CONCACAF to the Gold Cup we’ve played them every 2-4 years since 1992 almost always sometimes within a year following the World Cup because CONMEBOL has such a long qualifying to preclude it from playing in the run-up to the WC. If you are looking for a backroom dealer Nike is more likely suspect than MLS. Since 1992, we’ve played the most friendlies against Mexico. Brazil, Germany, Colombia, and Scotland are tied for second with six (Brazil and Colombia are ahead with 8 if you count made up cup competitions hosted by US Soccer, like the US Cup and Friendship Cup).
Well, Hell, I thought they would send a squad or young players, like from a U-23 squad. We’re going to get killed. I just hope our young guys can keep it respectable and don’t have their confidence destroyed.
If they get their confidence destroyed after a meaningless friendly then they need to find another line of work.
Like what happened when they played the soon-to-be WC champs in June, right? 🙂

I would imagine four or five of these guys will not end up making the trip due to “unspecified injuries”.
Why do some national teams release a roster 3 weeks before but the USMNT always does it a few days before the break? Kind of lame how the USMNT always does it last possible minute.
There’s no requirement for announcements of rosters so a fed can wait as long as they want. Us usually waits until the previous weekend games are completed so that they can replace anyone who takes a knock. Usually the players and their clubs are notified well before it just isn’t officially released. That is why you’ll see reports from clubs that a player has been called before the US announced. I think Klinsmann used it as a way to say “you have to always fight for your spot”, and I think USSF tries to use it to generate buzz, but I find the only people who care about roster releases are junkies that would care anyway.
Right.. there is no good reason ussf doesn’t release the roster early like other federations do… us junkies wanna know and analyze the squad asap but ussf waits until the last moments which is annoying
