Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: McKennie, Pulisic, and more

Not many players have been able to make a big impact in their European debut. Weston McKennie shrugged off those remarks midweek, registering an assist in his Champions League debut in a 1-1 draw against Porto.

Now with the sights turned back to Bundesliga action, Schalke face another tough test with the arrival of Bayern Munich this weekend to Gelsenkirchen. McKennie was all over the field on Wednesday, and will need a similar performance if Schalke wants to snatch their first win in league play this season.

Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund face a trip to Hoffenheim in Bundesliga play while Alfredo Morales and Fortuna Dusseldorf face Stuttgart on Friday. Andrija Novakovich and Fortuna Sittard battle Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie. Lynden Gooch and Sunderland will look to stay near the top of the EFL League One as they battle Rochdale.

DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle face a winnable matchup against Crystal Palace. Tim Ream seeks to make his season debut for Fulham as they battle Watford. Antonee Robinson and Wigan kick off play this weekend in the EFL Championship against Bristol City.

    • I watched most of the game. Impressions: alfredo is not afraid “get stuck in” on a tackle. He is quick and has added some offensive aggression to his game. Dusseldorf are not good, but he was heavily involved throughout the game in all aspects. His defensive work is very solid.

      • We agree on most things I think, I favor emo more than most but got a feeling this is a big weekend

      • And Hyndman doesn’t get off the bench. I get that he’s 22 but he hasn’t shown improvement in 3 years so I don’t know we can expect him to improve in the next three either. Part of that is due to injury but he’s supposedly healthy now.

      • Ok Nova got the brace and CP scored at least they scored and I would like to think he was held out for tues match because they were playing a bottom team today and squad rotation is to be expected.
