Lletget leaves USMNT camp due to injury

Sebastian Lletget has been forced out of the U.S. national team’s training camp ahead of friendlies against Brazil and Mexico.

The LA Galaxy midfielder was unable to shake off a lingering abdominal injury suffered with the Galaxy, costing him a chance to play for the USMNT for the first time in more than a year.

This week’s camp was Lletget’s first with the national team since suffering a major leg injury in a World Cup qualifying win against Honduras in March of 2017, an injury that cost him the rest of that year for both club and country.

The USMNT will not replace Lletget, having called in Marky Delgado as a late addition earlier in the week to provide cover.

The USMNT faces Brazil at MetLife Stadium on Friday before taking on Mexico on Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee.

  1. Lletget is the key player imo. He is not afraid to show for the ball in the midfield over and over and over again, unlike other US midfielders who lose confidence as the game wears on and the fouls to their backside mount.

  2. Hope he gets healthy and isn’t the next Holden or O’Brien. I really think he can be a good playmaker for the US, more so than Nagbe.

    • Well Nagbe is not a playmaker, nor is he a winger, so that slight dig was inadequate and unnecessary. Tata seems to be the first manager to figure out his best position, which is as a deep lying midfielder who keeps possesion and circulates the ball, and also has the ability to get into attack. He has been used as a winger and a psuedo number 10 for the USMNT, so it stands to reason why we havent seen him at his best with the NT, and I’ll continue to argue his skill set in that position is unmatched in the US pool.

    • Finally some good news! Thanks man. As for Sebastian, dang, still one of the most promising players in the pool, skill-wise. Bummed.
