Luca De La Torre has had to wait for playing time with Fulham’s senior squad but was up to the task on Tuesday. De La Torre scored a goal and registered two assist in Fulham’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory against Millwall.

In the seventh minute, De La Torre fought off several defenders to play a ball out wide to the onrushing Joe Bryan scored from a tight angle for a 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes after returning from halftime, the U.S. youth international worked his way into open space in the box and received a pass from Ayite Floyd. De La Torre took one touch to control and slotted it past Ben Amos to double Fulham’s lead. It was De La Torre’s first senior goal for Fulham.

De La Torre capped off his strong outing as he set up Cyrus Christie who scored from long-range in the 68th minute. The 20-year-old played a total of 85 minutes in the win over their London neighbors.

Fellow U.S. international Tim Ream also had his first start for Fulham this season, playing 62 minutes before being subbed off. Ream had missed out on the start of the season with a back injury.

The 3-1 win propelled Fulham into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

  1. Glad to see that he made the most of the playing time. I assume he’ll play in the next Carabao Cup game, but hopefully this leads to some time in league or FA Cup games. He’s still pretty young, but he needs to start getting on the field.

    • A 20- year old US youth international getting to play for an EPL club and getting a goal and two assists in his first game is certainly worth covering. Millwall is a championship team, or second tier after the Premier League. Congrats to de la Torre. He might be able to earn EPL minutes after this performance.

      • oh i missed the part that says he is a us youth international. well, that does make a difference. uh, sorry, mickey kennedy. thanks gary page.

      • the vancouver fans at this website don’t seem to know that vancouver could contact jeremy gunn at standford for the open coaching position, that gunn won 3 straight national titles at stanford. but how would the vancouver fans here know that, (not trying to be mean) but the sbi writers here DON’T EVEN COVER COLLEGE SOCCER! so how WOULD the readers know about gunn? or stanford? or any college coaches? how would the readers here even know who won the national championship last year? again, i love this website, but where is the USA SOCCER COVERAGE? other than mls, where is the rest of it?

    • If they want to know there are sites that do that. The fans here, for the most part, don’t care and if they do they go to the other places for that info. They used to do more college coverage and do cover the college cup every year, but this is the free market if people aren’t clicking on those stories or sharing them then it is not financially feasible to continue.
