SBI Question of the Day: Which MLS team will make the next coaching change?

The last two Mondays have seen two Major League Soccer coaches lose their jobs.

Struggling Cali Clasico rivals LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes parted ways with Sigi Schmid and Mikael Stahre following disappointing campaigns.

But the Galaxy and Quakes might not be the only clubs who, like Orlando City earlier this year, will get rid of coaches before the end of the 2018 season.

Chicago’s Veljko Paunovic is in trouble, as the Fire have underwhelmed a year after taking a step forward.

Orlando City’s James O’Conner replaced Jason Kreis in June, but the Lions haven’t responded to the coaching change, as they’re floundering in last place and turned in yet another disappointing showing against the Fire on Sunday.

Over in the Western Conference, first-year manager Anthony Hudson hasn’t turned around the fortunes of the Colorado Rapids, which have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are closer to the red line than the teams mentioned above, but they’ve once again underachieved under Carl Robinson, and if they fail to make the playoffs he could be on the hot seat as well.

    • i’m hoping toronto lose the campeones cup. why? i like and cheer for all 26 mls clubs, even the three that didn’t play a game in mls yet (nashville, miami and cincinnatti). toronto needs change. there’s something wrong with toronto. i think the owner group is fine. i think the fans and stadium situation are fine. i think the problem can be fixed by some combination of new players, new coach and/or new gm (but i don’t think it’s any deeper than that). change generally requires a spark. in sports, losing is generally the spark that allows changes to occur. i want toronto to be better next year. i think the club needs some changes. toronto sucked all year this year. if they win campeones cup, some people will try to spin this season, put it in some kind of good light. that doesn’t help. let’s lose the campeones cup, toronto. let’s get knocked out of the playoffs. let’s have a board room meeting. let’s fire or promote some people. let’s have a good rest and a good think in the off season. and let’s come back next spring fresh and ready to hit it with some new faces.

Stejskal: TFC’s Bill Manning reflects on down 2018 ahead of Campeones Cup

tfc gm bill manning: “it’s injuries.”
seattle had injuries. jordan morris got concacaf’ed in seattle’s 2-1 defeat by santa tecla in their concacaf champions league round of 16 match in el salvador on February 23, 2018. “jmo” was key to brian schmetzer’s offense (recall 2016: seattle’s “cinderella season”, sigi schmid resigned; summer hiring of nicolas lodeiro, dempsey irregular heartbeat, jmo stepps up, jmo rookie of the year, schmetzer named coach when sounders made playoffs, sounders beat toronto in Toronto and won their first mls cup). the loss of jmo was terrible for their club. BUT THEY ADAPTED. the club signed new dp raul ruidiaz in the summer transfer window and their resurgence began. the sounders are now riding a nine-match winning streak which they say is a new league record (in the non-shootout era). so if the sounders can adapt from injuries, why can’t toronto? i don’t buy it.
