This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

The UEFA Nations League gets started this weekend with several juicy matchups featuring some of the best national teams in the World.

Highlighting the weekend of European action is a Saturday evening tilt between England and Spain. These two sides are coming off very different World Cup campaigns as Spain had a disappointing tournament that ended in defeat in the round of 16 to Russia. They’d like to get this new cycle off to a fast start with a competitive victory. England, meanwhile, made it all the way to the semifinals and are hoping to keep their strong run of form going.

Other Nations League matches to watch include the Netherlands taking on France and Italy facing Poland.

Elsewhere, Mexico takes on Uruguay in an interesting international friendly, the Spanish second division gets some airtime, and so does League One in England.

  1. Thank you, as usual, for this service. It is relatively thorough and could only be improved by adding the occasional weekday games broadcast in the US, such as Champions/Europa League, the new UEFA Nations League, and Monday afternoon Premier League.

Can I just note that two UEFA Nations League games this weekend are apparently being shown over the air on UniMás, not only on premium cable on Univisón Deportes as listed here? They are now listing Inglaterra – España on Saturday and Francia – Holanda on Sunday, 1:45 pm Central. The video quality and display ratio are not ideal, but I appreciate their offering these games to a wider audience at all. If you know even a little Spanish, you can turn on CC (closed caption) and pick up a little more.

    • P.S. It would also be helpful to be sure that the tag or category “Soccer onTV” always shows up by default on the SBI homepage.
      .
In exchange, the partly overlapping tags “USMNT,” “U.S. Men’s National Team,” and “U.S. Men’s Nationa [sic] Team” could be combined into one category. Some of the articles this week were only findable if you guessed the right one of these.

Thank you for considering these suggestions.

(Sorry, an edit function would be nice.)

I believe the MLS game NYCFC – DC United, 3:55 pm Central, is also on UniMás and not just Univisión Deportes. Villa vs. Rooney should be worth watching if no one gets hurt. Excuse my ignorance, but have they ever faced off before?
